Monthly Cuba Cultural-Film Night, a new campaign to bring the culture
of Cuba to Vancouver!
On the evening of July 4th, a celebration of Cuban culture was the reason for a spirited gathering at the Mt Pleasant Neighborhood House in Vancouver, BC. Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC) organized this monthly cultural night that included delicious food, poetry and films. Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver, Coordinator Noah Fine and VCSC organizer Kerri Goodwin introduced the evening dedicated to Cuba’s struggle for independence from US domination and the Cuban struggle against US-sponsored terrorists acts.
Noah Fine introduced the film “Septiembres y Mas” (“Septembers and More”) which depicted some of the horrific terrorist acts committed by the US government and US-based anti-Cuba terrorist groups against the people of Cuba. After the film, Shakeel Lochan, an organizer with VCSC, read his original poetry inspired by the Cuban revolutionary struggle. Sarah Alwell, also a VCSC organizer, read poetry from Antonio Guerrero, one of the 5 Cubans who have been unjustly imprisoned in the US for almost 10 years.
Then Noah introduced the film “Mission Against Terror”. This Irish-Cuban co-production details the story of the 5 Cubans who were sent to the US to investigate anti-Cuban terrorist organizations that had committed crimes against Cuba.
