Report Back on July 7th Dinner and Discussion on the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) Organized by the Solidarity Coalition for a United Latin America (SCULA)
On July 7th friends of the struggle in Latin America came together for a large Asado (BBQ), a traditional Latin American feast and celebration to talk about the great advancements being made in Latin America and the progress of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA).
The event was organized by the Solidarity Coalition for a United Latin America (SCULA) and was host to great speakers, great discussions, great people and great food! Over 65 people gathered to participate in the event to learn more about ALBA and share stories and ideas.
Young high school organizer with SCULA and Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC) Esteban Gonzalez Arteaga mc’d the event and introduced the importance of gathering together and also the speakers that would be presenting. The first speaker was Rosa Quiro the coordinator of SCULA who opened up stressing the significance of building friendship and solidarity with Latin America. The next speaker Marysol Torres outlined what ALBA is, the great progress it has made and future possibilities to look forward to in Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua. Jose Angel, also an organizer with SCULA spoke about the importance of work to free political prisoners in El Salvador who are unjustly jailed for organizing progressive activity by the government of El Salvador. Rosalina Arteaga spoke to emphasize the growing need for unity and work to support the people of Latin America.
The event finished with music and discussion as well as a raffle to raise money for SCULA to continue organizing events in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in Latin America.
